About Us

The Barwon South West (BSW) Region provides justice services from Justice Service Centres in:

  • Geelong and Warrnambool
  • and through reporting centres in Colac, Hamilton and Portland.

There are wo prisons located within the region:

  • the maximum security HM Prison Barwon
  • the medium security Marngoneet Correctional Centre, including its annex Karreenga.

In addition to the custodial services provided at our prisons, Regional Justice Service Centres provide:

  • Community Correctional Services
  • Sheriff's Operations
  • Offender Behaviour Programs
  • Consumer Affairs
  • Births Deaths and Marriages
  • Dispute Settlement Centre
  • Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee.

About the Role

The Justice Officer - Human Resources provides a range of corporate support services within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility. Reporting to the Team Leader – Human Resources, this role will focus on:

  • performing payroll duties for the Prison Precinct
  • the preparation of rosters, which includes high volume phone work and accurate data entry within achievable timeframes
  • providing statistical information on staff costing, sick leave, overtime and other relevant information
  • providing other related administrative support as required.

The role works across a 14-day fortnight roster, which involves weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016.

The position requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance and timeliness.

About You 

As our ideal candidate, you will:

  • have experience interpreting and implementing employee entitlements from sources such as Victorian Public Service Agreement, and Fair Work Act, or similar
  • have practical experience using an integrated personnel / payroll system and the ability to enter, modify and extract data accurately
  • have experience in delivering customer and administrative services/support in a client services environment, with high attention to detail
  • have proven ability to deal with pressure and conflict situations, find solutions and work through problems
  • be able to build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with varied stakeholders and clients.
