About the role

The Premium Policy Officer provides high level policy and technical advice on complex premium related matters, and provides support for the annual making of the WorkCover Premiums Order, in order to ensure that Victorian employers are paying the appropriate amount of premium.

  • Provide technical advice on premium related issues such as industry classification to WorkSafe's Agents and employer representatives.
  • Draft responses to Ministerial communications on premium issues.
  • Conduct research, request and analyse data and develop policy papers containing options and recommendations.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders both internal and external on premium issues (e.g. ABS, WorkSafe Agents, LPIS, Advisory).
  • Respond to premium related queries received via the Premium Mail Box and from the Advisory area.

About you

As the successful candidate in this role, you will possess clear communication skills, ability to build rapport with various stakeholders, and the ability to consult and educate on premium related enquiries. You will also possess:

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply applicable WorkCover legislation including the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation & Compensation Act 2013, Accident Compensation (WorkCover Insurance) Act 1993, Accident Compensation Act 1985, and associated Premiums Orders.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research and think laterally and analytically.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial principles including the ability to interpret and understand financial statements and data
  • Working knowledge of premium and claims systems including ACCtion, VPCS and NOVUS.


Tertiary qualifications in law, economics and/or accounting (including post-graduate studies) would be preferred.
