A specialist function is being created within WorkSafe that will focus on supporting the recovery and the social and work participation of long-term injured workers.

As Director, Claims and Recovery Operations, you will be responsible for providing direction and leading this newly established specialist operation, including two frontline teams of Recovery & Support Coordinators and the supporting specialist resources. This will be the first time WorkSafe has managed Workers Claims internally. The focus of the branch is ensuring injured workers’ recovery and outcomes are at the centre of the operation. You will be accountable for developing and leading a high performing team that delivers on its strategic and operational objectives of improving outcomes for Injured Workers and meets all legislative requirements.

Key Accountabilities

You will have effective communication and expert influencing skills as you will work closely with your team, your peers and stakeholders to establish a Claims team managing long-term workers compensation claims. More specifically the Director, Claims and Recovery Operations will:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of WorkSafe’s operational and service model development as it relates to injured workers with complex and long-term impacts of injury
  • Improve outcomes and the service experience for injured workers, by identifying opportunities to consolidate processes and remove unnecessary obstacles for injured worker recovery and return to work.
  • Work closely with senior leadership within Strategy, the Insurance Business Unit and relevant stakeholders to identify appropriate commercial partnership arrangements and measures
  • As this is a newly formed team, you will have accountability to lead the team through cultural, structural and operational development and continued change to strengthen agility and improve outcomes for injured workers

About you

You have previous senior leadership experience within a large complex organisation, preferably in a personal injury or parallel field. More specifically you have:

  • Previous experience in the leadership of service based operations dealing directly with customers and members of the public
  • Outstanding leadership skills, and experience in coaching and mentoring staff
  • Contemporary attitude to case management which includes understanding and knowledge of long term injury and disability and its impact on individuals
  • Substantial experience leading teams through change


  • Relevant tertiary qualifications
  • Experience in case management, rehabilitation, medical and paramedical, disability, social services or other relevant field (desirable)
