The Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist or Planner with a strong background in environmental approvals to join the team based in either our Melbourne or Geelong offices.

With 5+ years’ experience, you will manage and assist in delivering complex environmental planning and assessment projects with key clients across Victoria.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead engagement with relevant regulatory authorities and project stakeholders.
  • Manage subconsultants contributing to approvals documentation.
  • Prepare detailed reports and submissions for clients and regulators.
  • Author and/or contribute to project referrals under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and Victorian Environment Effects Act 1978.
  • Author and/or contribute to Environment Effects Statements.
  • Win environmental approvals scopes of work with external clients.
  • Assist internal teams at SMEC with the environmental approvals on various infrastructure projects.

Ideal applicants will have/be:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Planning or similar.
  • 5+ years' experience within a similar role.
  • Experience in gaining environment approvals and statutory approvals for projects in Victoria.
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment.
  • Proven project management and client relationship management capability.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and written.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Experience working with government clients preferred.
